The Problem We Solved

Trades businesses — HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, cleaning, pest control — typically run on a patchwork of phone calls, paper job sheets, group chats, and spreadsheets. That means double-booked appointments, no visibility into where a technician actually is, invoices that wait days for someone to transcribe a paper job sheet, and no searchable history for repeat customers. The platforms that do solve this — ServiceTitan, Jobber, Housecall Pro — are priced and packaged for the enterprise, leaving 1–15 technician shops underserved. FieldOps is Fall Rise's showcase build of a lean, custom-built alternative for exactly that segment.

The Complexity — One Job, Three Surfaces, In Sync

A job in FieldOps isn't one screen — it's a dispatcher scheduling it, a technician driving to it, checking in with GPS, logging work and photos, capturing a signature, and taking payment on-site, while a customer watches their technician's ETA and pays the resulting invoice online. All of that has to be the same job, status, and payment record across the admin dashboard, the technician app, and the customer portal — with the technician app still working correctly when a job site has no signal.

  • Shared job, quote, and invoice state across admin dashboard, technician app, and customer portal
  • GPS-based geofenced technician check-in/check-out synced in real time via Socket.IO
  • Quote → scheduled job → invoice → payment in one continuous flow, powered by Stripe
  • Offline-first technician app that queues job and status updates and syncs when connectivity returns

The Solution — Three Surfaces on One Real-Time Core

We built FieldOps around a Node.js, Express, TypeScript, and MongoDB backend, with Socket.IO pushing live job status and technician location to every surface and BullMQ + Redis handling recurring job generation and invoice reminders. The Next.js admin dashboard gives dispatchers drag-and-drop scheduling and a live map; the Flutter technician app handles the on-site work — navigation, geofenced check-in, photos, signatures, and Stripe Terminal payment; and a Next.js customer portal lets customers approve quotes, track arrival, and pay online. The schema is tenant-aware (companyId on every collection) from day one, so the same codebase can be reskinned for a real trades-business client without a data-model rewrite.

Feature Showcase

FieldOps — 01 — Live Ops Dashboard

01 — Live Ops Dashboard

One dashboard, the whole day at a glance.

Dispatchers open FieldOps to a real-time status board and live map — every technician's location, every job's stage, and the day's schedule in one view.

  • Real-time job status board — Unassigned → Assigned → En Route → On Site → Completed → Invoiced
  • Live map showing every technician's location alongside job pins
  • Push notification to technician on assignment or reassignment
FieldOps — 02 — Scheduling & Dispatch

02 — Scheduling & Dispatch

Drag it onto the calendar, dispatch handles the rest.

A day/week/month calendar with drag-and-drop assignment, conflict detection for double-booked technicians, and recurring job templates for maintenance contracts.

  • Drag-and-drop job scheduling with conflict detection
  • Recurring job support for repeat maintenance visits
  • Assign or reassign jobs via drag-drop or bulk assign
FieldOps — 03 — Customers & Job History

03 — Customers & Job History

A CRM-lite that remembers every visit.

Every customer has a profile with contact info, service addresses, full job history, and notes — so repeat customers get service informed by what happened last time, not a blank slate.

  • Customer profiles with multiple service addresses
  • Full job and quote/invoice history per customer
  • Tagging and segmentation — residential, commercial, VIP
FieldOps — 04 — Quoting, Invoicing & Payments

04 — Quoting, Invoicing & Payments

Quote to paid, without leaving the dashboard.

A quote builder handles line items, labor, materials, tax, and discounts; an approved quote converts straight into a scheduled job and, on completion, a branded PDF invoice with live payment status.

  • Quote builder — line items, labor, materials, tax, discount
  • One-flow conversion: quote → job → invoice
  • Stripe-powered payment status — unpaid, partial, paid, overdue
FieldOps — 05 — Technicians, Parts & Reports

05 — Technicians, Parts & Reports

Manage the crew, the stock, and the numbers.

Owners onboard technicians with roles and certifications, track parts and inventory against jobs, and pull revenue, utilization, and first-time-fix reports without waiting on month-end.

  • Technician onboarding, roles, skills, and certifications
  • Parts and inventory tracking per job
  • Revenue, utilization, and job-completion reporting
FieldOps — 06 — Technician App

06 — Technician App

Job list to signature, all from the field.

A technician's whole day lives on their phone: today's jobs, one-tap navigation, a geofenced check-in the moment they arrive, and on-site logging that ends with a signature and a payment — even if the job site has no signal.

  • GPS-based geofenced check-in/check-out
  • Photos, notes, parts used, and time tracking per job
  • Digital signature capture and on-site Stripe Terminal payment
  • Offline queueing that syncs the moment connectivity returns

How We Made It Simple

Every surface only shows what its user needs: a dispatcher sees the board and the map, a technician sees today's jobs and a check-in button, a customer sees a quote to approve and a map to watch. The real-time core and the offline queue do the hard synchronization work invisibly, so a job status is never something anyone has to double-check by phone.

  • One continuous quote → job → invoice → payment flow, no re-entry
  • Geofenced check-in replaces manual "I'm on site" phone calls
  • Offline queueing instead of a spinner when signal drops
  • Tenant-aware schema from day one, ready to reskin for a real client
